Sutton Maddock Village Hall

The land on which Sutton Maddock Village Hall stands was given to Sutton Maddock Parish Council (SMPC) in 1963. Under a Conveyance and Trust Deed, restrictions were put on the use of the property including that use to be for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish.

SMPC held the property as Custodian Trustee on behalf of the Village Hall Management Committee (Management Committee) who hold all of the administrative and executive powers. The Management Committee is composed of residents of the Parish and members of local interest groups including SMPC.

In the Autumn of 2016, the Management Committee resolved that as the property was rarely used, no longer fit for purpose, would need significant investment and should be sold. As a result the Management Committee instructed SMPC to sell the property and this was completed by public auction in November 2016. Prior to the auction, planning permission was obtained for a change of use to business (B1) and since the sale, a commercial business has used the premises.

Since the sale, the net proceeds (less legal fees) have been held by the Management Committee.  Per the Conveyance and Trust Deed, the sale proceeds can be used to acquire another property (in the Parish and with the same restrictions) or towards other charitable purposes or objects for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish.

Residents of the Parish can apply to the Management Committee directly (or via the Parish Council) where they believe they have a potential scheme that would meet the funding criteria. At the time of creating this web page, the Management Committee were not holding meetings and therefore should be contacted through the Chair:
